BiB team up with DRFC

Two former rugby players have teamed up to bring funds into the club where they met.
Bill Jones, now chairman of Darlington Rugby Club, and Martin Littleton, group managing director of BiB Insurance, used to play together for Darlington in the late 1960s and 1970s.
Martin, who played at loose head prop, joined the club in 1965 before heading off to Oxford University returning in 1969, the year that scrum half Bill joined from Westoe RFC.
They both continued to play for the next eight years during an era when there were no leagues and the club was based off McMullen Road in Darlington.
“We hardly won a match at the beginning but then we started to pick up and one season won 12 games in a row before we lost to Alnwick 6-5. We were by no means the biggest side but we were very fit,” recalled Martin.
Now, as one of the club’s sponsors and its insurer, BiB has developed a scheme to support players and club officials with competitive personal insurance, such as household and motor cover, while giving an introducer’s fee back to the club for every policy taken out.
Bill said: “We are very reliant on the support of local businesses like BiB. It is the region’s largest independent insurance broker and gives us the unique combination of highly competitive prices and quality local service.”
Martin added: “We are keen to build a special relationship with DRFC members and this is a win win for both BiB and the club.”
